Blind Drawing

Group Size: Pairs or small groups Duration: 15–20 minutes Materials: Paper, pens, images

Objectives:

  • Improve clarity of verbal communication
  • Develop active listening skills
  • Strengthen interpretation and processing of instructions
  • Encourage teamwork and cooperation
  • Highlight differences in perception and communication

Instructions: One participant receives an image and describes it verbally without showing it. The other participant draws based only on the description. After completion, compare the drawing with the original image. Roles can be swapped.

Adaptations for Neurodiversity:

  • Allow written descriptions instead of spoken
  • Provide simple image options
  • Allow extra processing time
  • Permit clarification questions
  • Reduce time pressure

Sensory and Safety Considerations

Low sensory load. May cause frustration if instructions are unclear, so facilitator support is important.

Facilitator Notes

Emphasize that mistakes are part of communication learning, not performance failure.

Experiencies

Highly effective for demonstrating communication gaps in a safe and engaging way.
