Pantomime

Group Size: 6–20 participants Duration: 10–15 minutes Materials: Optional, word cards or scenario cards

Objectives:

  • Develop non-verbal communication skills
  • Improve interpretation and observation
  • Encourage creativity and expression
  • Strengthen group attention and engagement
  • Build confidence in performance without speech

Instructions: One participant is chosen to act. They receive a word, phrase, or scenario (without speaking or using sounds). The rest of the group watches and tries to guess what is being represented. The first correct guesser becomes the next actor. Continue for multiple rounds.

Adaptations for Neurodiversity:

  • Use simple, concrete words (avoid abstract concepts)
  • Allow extra thinking time before acting
  • Provide visual cards for support
  • Allow opting out of performing (observer role)
  • Use themes (animals, actions, emotions) to simplify understanding

Sensory and Safety Considerations: Medium sensory load due to movement and group attention focus.

Facilitator Notes: Keep instructions clear and demonstrate one example before starting. Ensure a supportive environment where participants feel safe to perform without judgment.
